From The CDS Team

A growing trend since the advent of AI, is chauffeur operators building their own booking platforms and then marketing them for sale, on the strength of real industry experience. It seems to make sense, but we would argue that the idea that running one operation, one way, from one perspective and experience is not the same thing as building software that works for an entire global industry. It is two very different skills and doing one does not automatically qualify you for the other.

For the last 14 years, CDS has been dedicated to building technology exclusively for the chauffeur and niche transportation industry. Not as a side project alongside running cars, or running after other IT projects, but as our only focus. That experience currently spans 350 companies across more than 25 countries, which means the platform is not shaped by how one operator does things in one market but it is shaped by the experience and collaborative innovation across hundreds of businesses, dozens of regulatory environments, and every kind of operation from single-car operators to international fleets.

One operator's way of working is not a template for the industry; it is just one way of doing things. What works brilliantly for one company's patch does not necessarily transfer to how another operator wants to run things, and software built around a single, limited use case tends to show it eventually, in the features that quietly do not fit anyone else.

CDS does not build tech for other industries, and we do not run other projects alongside this one. Our chauffeur platform is the only thing we do, which means the platform gets our full attention rather than a slice of it.

Every feature on the platform has come from a conversation with the people who use it. We have run two live bootcamps a week, open to any user who wants to join, since the first day of the UK's first Covid lockdown, nearly seven years ago now. Each session runs for an hour, covers training on a specific topic or whatever questions users bring, and stays interactive rather than a one-way presentation. Those conversations are what help steer development, and the platform receives weekly updates, built from operator's real requirements, rather than what we assume they need.

Independence, Security and Trust

We also have no vested or conflict of interest in the chauffeur or limousine industry itself. CDS does not run a chauffeur company, and we do not feed client bookings into a network of our own to take a cut. The business is entirely bootstrapped and owned by its founders, and every penny of revenue comes from a fair, flat, monthly subscription.

That independence matters. If the company behind your booking platform is also a chauffeur operator, and the relationship sours, what happens to your access? Your data, your pricing, and the competitive detail about how you run your business have all been sitting inside software owned by somebody who potentially competes with you for the same clients.

Another way to think of this relationship is that every subscription or commission payment paid to a competitor is revenue that helps fund their fleet, their marketing and their growth. It is difficult to imagine that you can strengthen your competitive position when paying a business who could expand quickly and take your customers. An operator who grows large enough, through fleet size, referral volume or the number of competitors now paying into their platform, ends up controlling more of the work moving through the industry. That kind of consolidation does not need a merger or a buyout to happen. It happens gradually, one competitor's business at a time, as more work and more money flow toward the same growing player.

"We are as independent as the clients we work for."
